Michael Silva, the president and founder of FOUNDATIONperformance, is a physical therapist, exercise physiologist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has been training and creating exercise programs for people of all levels since 1994, and an orthopedic, sports medicine physical therapist since 1999. Much of his career since 2000 has been in rehabilitating and preventing injuries in the distance running world.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and the University of Massachusetts with a Master’s degree in physical therapy, Michael is considered a skilled professional in his field. He has worked with hundreds of clients and athletes at the high school, collegiate, olympic, and professional levels.
Michael’s expertise and interests have made him a sought after clinician and consultant in the competitive running world throughout New England and beyond. He has worked with runners associated with the USA National Olympic team, Irish National Olympic team, New Zealand National Olympic team, Australia National Olympic team, most of the colleges and universities in New England, Boston Athletic Association, and more.
Some of his elite running clients include Molly Huddle, Amy Hastings-Craig, Roisin McGettigan, Tim Ritchie, Lauren Fleshman, Kim Smith, Amy Rudolph, Marc Carroll, Keith Kelly, Amy Mortimer, Mary Cullen, and Sara Jameison.
He is the creator of RUNstrong® a comprehensice conditioning program for runners. His RUNstrong® program includes 8 week class series, one night learning & doing clinics, and lecture series.
He has consulted for dozens of organizations and schools including Alter G (makers of the anti-gravity treadmill), Arthrosurface, Brown University, Bryant University, Stonehill College, Endurance Nation, many local highschools, many local running and triathlon clubs, Oiselle Running “Bird” Camp, , and Foss Running Camp.
As well as his clinical work, and his consulting Michael is a guest speaker and writer. He has presented on topics related to distance running and injuries. Some of his events include: The Running Event in Austin-TX, The AMAA Boston Marathon Expo, Trimania Summit & Expo in Boston, MA, AllStar Track & Field Clinic in Atlantic City, NJ.
He has written for New England runner magazine, RIFit Magazine, beginnertriathlete.com, and ontri.com. He has also been featured/interviewed in several magazines including: Triathlete, New England Runner, Running Times, and Men’s Journal.
Michael is supported, assisted, and inspired by his wife Carla and together they enjoy time with their two children, Jack and Morgan.
